Parent Finders National Capital Region
is an Ottawa based, volunteer, non-profit organization governed by a
Board of Directors elected every two years. We are the longest running
adoption support group in the country still holding public information
meetings and still publishing a regular newsletter.
Our membership is made up of adult adoptees, birth parents and other
birth relatives including siblings, as well as fostered adults and adoptive
parents. For many years, most of our members were adoptees. But
in the last ten years we have seen a great increase in the number of
birth parents especially birth fathers who have traditionally not been
involved in adoption searches. Various surveys over the years have
shown that our membership comes from all walks of life and is
truly representative of the community at large. Although we are based
in Ottawa, our members come from all over the country and around the
world. The common link for everyone is adoption, search and reunion.
Parent Finders National Capital Region
maintains a database of over 12,000 records. We are linked with the
National Parent Finders database which has over 60,000
entries. The Ottawa chapter of Parent Finders has been
associated with over 1,500 reunions over the last 30+ years. During
this time we have helped thousands of Canadians to search and reunite
with their birth families.
