Dear Friends
After almost 50 years of serving the adoption community across Canada and internationally, it is time for Parent Finders in Ottawa to wind down its services. Once part of a large Canadian network, Parent Finders Ottawa (formerly known as PF National Capital Region) is closing.
Effective November 1, 2025, this website will be inactive. You will still be able to connect with us through our FACEBOOK page under the heading of Parent Finders Ottawa for very limited support.
We have proudly accomplished what we set out to do in the early seventies, that is, to improve access to adoption information across the country. Since the advent of the internet, most in-person self-help groups like ours, have closed, as most provinces have opened their records.
Searching for a missing birth relative has been facilitated by the many resources that can be found online. With the introduction of DNA testing companies (such Ancestry, 23and ME, etc.), these also have proved to be a valuable search tool.
For more information on how to start your search, contact the appropriate provincial ministry of community and social services and / or your local children’s aid society. You need to know where the adoptee was born, adopted or where the birth mother relinquished the child for adoption.
Our Parent Finders group in Ottawa was involved in over 4,000 reunions. And that is just our one group in one province. We would like to thank the hundreds of volunteers across Canada who gave freely of their time and much effort to assist others in searching and connecting with missing family relatives.
